Slow your roll.

Today seems like it's been Attack of the Egos.

No one cared to ask me how I'm doing today, except for one person. Which normally wouldn't bug me except for the fact that 90% of the people I talked to today shit all over me.

Case 1: Had so-called good news for me, and because I was totally swamped with work didn't have time to stroke his ego about it. Plus if I did have the time I prolly wouldn't have anyway. Trust me, you wouldn't have either. So I get an IM sayin about how he's gotta go, but all he did was block one of my SN's. Slick.

Case 2: All hot and bothered because apparently I knew something she didn't. There is nothing I could have done to prevent this from happening, and this person was even quoted saying she gets jealous when I know more than she does about our friend. Uhm...gosh I wasn't aware we were keeping score, and talking about the subject in question is none of my business. This was followed by another case of getting blocked on AIM. Pfff.

Case 3: Co-worker giving me attitude for asking legitimate questions, simply because he's pissy about his standing at the office. You get what you give dude. Give attitude and other ppl are gonna give it back. I didn't personally, but he's not all that happy about collecting on his karma.

Cases 4-999999: The usual customers and vendors. LOL. sigh

Cool Sights of the Week

1. A Mexican high school student on the bus, carrying a set of golf clubs on her way to school. (ALTERNATIVE SPORTING OPTIONS, YEAH! GOLF IS NOT JUST FOR OLD WHITEYS AND ASIANS DAMNIT!)

2. A young black student on the trolley with a violin. (SAVE THE MUSIC!!!)

3. A burning red sunset yesterday that wasn't set off by a fire...which just kept getting better and better as the sun went down.

4. A lunar eclipse last night.

It's great to be alive. :-)

[Honorable Mention: I Love The 80s Strikes Back, esp when The Donnas react to stuff like My Little Pony.]

Feels like...
sitting at a slot machine for God knows how long...eventually you have to walk away empty handed. But damnit, you KNOW that as soon as you leave, someone's gonna come along and hit the jackpot.

"Can't we all just get along?"

I'm sure I'm not the only person who was surprised to see Ja Rule on MTV last night talking to Louis Farrakhan.

Turns out that it was Irv Gotti's idea to put em together, to try and get some more peaceful thoughts out there regarding Ja's feud with 50 Cent.

Took me a few minutes to remember that they even had beef. But then again, I been out of the loop. For those still in the dark, it all started cuz 50 wrote "Wangsta" as an attack on Ja that went unanswered. Then came the mixtape battles that began to include Busta Rhymes and other rappers to join 50's side.

Murder Inc. produced the intervew and passed it out to a bunch of folks like MTV and I'm sure BET. It ended with Farrakhan trying to instigate a round table peace talk between Ja, 50, and everyone else that's got beef. Can you IMAGINE if someone had suggested that to Pac about a decade ago? I wonder what he wouda said.

Kinda funny how this sounds like two countries that need to come together before a skirmish...but I guess in a lot of ways it's the same. There are ppl on each side that could influence the spark of another East Coast/West Coast type of thing. As much as I don't wanna take this too seriously, I remember encountering fools that were SOOOOO into whose side you were on (or should be on) it was pretty freaky. Those are the same fools that would feel totally justified hurting someone that didn't agree with them (for the sake of ego).

I remember when Ja first started...he was this little punk lookin kid with the growl in his voice that said "holla" all the time. He had some catchy hooks and beats...then quickly came the era where he was collab'in with everyone and their mama. And yeah, I'll admit I liked a lot of those songs. They were good party music. But didn't it seem like he was in everyone's music video? LOL. Then last year Wangsta was released and everything went downhill. True, all this "murdaaaaaa" stuff he was spouting was gettin kinda old, but it's music, not gospel...figure just let the cat say what he wanna say. Nobody gets on the back of the Cash Money Coochie Bling Bling Millionaires! Go to war on THEM, damnit! We need 'em exterminated anyway!! (OK, OK, I kid, I kid...)

Reports on his new album say that many of the songs talk about killin 50 and his crew and goin after his family. Damn! I know it's just lyrics but good gracious! Guess you push someone around too much they're gonna push back.

Wonder what's gonna happen next... 50 prolly ain't worried about a damn thing, since he been shot so many times already. (Whoa, just like 2Pac was.)

Falling on a tin roof
While I'm safe there in your arms
So all I ask is for you
To come away with me in the night
Come away with me..."

Happy Birthday Buddy.

Isn't it ironic that someone you once knew so well could easily become another person on the street? Another person in line at the movie theater?

I would give anything to forget you. Yet it's because of you that I know some of the most extraordinary things about Life. I wish for one more conversation, and yet I doubt that it would fill the hole in my heart. In fact I'm willing to bet that it would make it bigger. But damnit, no matter where my life takes me, whether I'm standing alone or not...there you are.

I have little doubt that you're not celebrating alone. The one you spoke of a few birthdays ago, if she's smart, is still around and thanking God that you were born 27 years ago.

[I feel like Dido in the White Flag video.]

Critics, this is the part where you tear me down and say I'm nuts. That there is no logical reason for this ache to exist anymore.

Feel free to start at any time. Because once you're through with me, that means that I'll be free of this ghost.

"Illlusions are dangerous people. They have no flaws."

I honestly and truly wish every happiness for you today and for all the other birthdays ahead of you. Life is a funny thing, and while I could never torture myself with the wish to talk to you one more time...I do anyway. I'd love to swap notes on how your life has shaped you in the last few years, to hear what you've learned, to be brought up to date on your triumphs and joys and sorrows.

And then I'll wake up. :-)
